Ford introduced its signature performance car, the Mustang, in 1964, and since then, the vehicle continues to amaze with something new every model year. So what’s next for the 2024 Mustang as it enters a new model year? Here’s what you can look forward to.
The Mustang Dark Horse
For the 2024 model year, Ford is adding a new trim level to the lineup that it calls the Dark Horse. Equipped with a modified 5.0-liter DOHC naturally aspirated V-8 engine generating 500 horsepower, this new model has the highest horsepower V-8 ever found under the Mustang’s hood. As this engine roars down the highway, you won’t believe such a powerful machine is street-legal.
Ford pairs the V-8 with a Tremec six-speed manual transmission featuring Rev Match and a MagneRide damping system. Whether you choose the Dark Horse model or another incredible Mustang trim, you can take advantage of an exhilarating drift brake that’s the first in its class.
Upgraded Engines
The popular EcoBoost and GT Mustang models carry over from the 2023 model year but with more powerful engines for the 2024 Ford Mustang. The EcoBoost trims get a 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that produces 350 pound-feet of torque and 315 horsepower, an increase from the 310 horsepower available with previous models. The GT models feature a 5.0-liter V-8 putting out 415 pound-feet of torque and 480 horsepower, a 30-horsepower increase from the 2023 engine. An optional active exhaust will up the V-8’s output to 481 pound-feet of torque and 486 horsepower.
Packages and Options
Ford plans to offer an optional Performance Pack equipment upgrade for the GT and EcoBoost models. This package will include a front strut-tower brace, a Torsen limited-slip differential, wider wheels, wider tires, larger Brembo brakes, and a MagneRide active damping suspension. Other options for the 2024 lineup include Recaro bucket seats and an active exhaust. Another exciting new feature is a Performance Electronic Parking Brake that looks like a traditional lever-action handbrake but provides more flexibility.
Redesigned Interior
Inside the 2024 Mustang, you’ll find a sleeker, more streamlined interior available in four distinct themes that include color-matched seatbelts and stitching. A flat-bottomed steering wheel is designed to give you precise, race car-inspired control while giving the dash a sporty appearance. An available curved, configurable dual display featuring a 13.2-inch center screen will transform every drive into an immersive experience. The display is more intuitive than previous Mustang screens, replacing traditional knobs with touchscreen buttons. The configurable 12.4-inch instrument cluster includes selectable colors, gauges, and a “calm” screen that shows only the most vital vehicle information.
Safety Features
Like every Ford vehicle, the 2024 Mustang will feature an incredible array of safety features to help you arrive at every destination with peace of mind. Adaptive cruise control comes standard, maintaining a safe following distance while letting you enjoy your desired cruising speed. The standard lane-departure warning will notify you when your Mustang is unintentionally drifting, while lane-keeping assist can apply corrective steering when necessary. When you add the Performance Pack, you can also get an optional pothole mitigation system.
As you can see, there’s a lot to get excited about with the 2024 Ford Mustang. The 2024 Mustang will be available soon at Ken Wilson Ford in Canton NC, so stay tuned or give us a call to find out more.
