Of course, the traditional option of equipping the car with a 5.0L V8 has returned, as well, with the engine producing 480 horsepower on GT models and 500 horsepower on the Dark Horse. This powerful motor also generates up to 418 lb-ft of torque, which helps achieve an incredible 0 to 60 time of well under five seconds. Despite this impressive performance, the Mustang is capable of impressive fuel efficiency with four-cylinder models earning up to 33 MPG highway. As for the transmission, a lightning-quick 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with paddle shifters comes standard, but the GT and Dark Horse offer a 6-speed manual with rev matching. Chassis Compared with the previous generation, the new Mustang handles even better. Here's what you can look forward to. more The Mustang Dark Horse For the 2024 model year, Ford is adding a new trim level to the lineup that it calls the Dark Horse. Equipped with a modified 5.0-liter DOHC naturally aspirated V-8 engine generating 500 horsepower, this new model has the highest horsepower V-8 ever found under the Mustang's hood. As this engine roars down the highway, you won't believe such a powerful machine is street-legal. Ford pairs the V-8 with a Tremec six-speed manual transmission featuring Rev Match and a MagneRide damping system. Whether you choose the Dark Horse model or another incredible Mustang trim, you can take advantage of an exhilarating drift brake that's the first in its class. Upgraded Engines The popular EcoBoost and GT Mustang models carry over from the 2023 model year but with more powerful engines for the 2024 Ford Mustang. The EcoBoost trims get a 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that produces 350 pound-feet of torque and 315 horsepower, an increase from the 310 horsepower available with previous models. The GT models feature a 5.0-liter V-8 putting out 415 pound-feet of torque and 480 horsepower, a 30-horsepower increase from the 2023 engine. This package will include a front strut-tower brace, a Torsen limited-slip differential, wider wheels, wider tires, larger Brembo brakes, and a MagneRide active damping suspension. Other options for the 2024 lineup include Recaro bucket seats and an active exhaust. Another exciting new feature is a Performance Electronic Parking Brake that looks like a traditional lever-action handbrake but provides more flexibility.
